Derek drives Dottie and Auntie Lynne to a senior’s day center where Sarah is teaching an improv class. Dottie and Lynne enter while Derek returns to the car in ‘one of his snits’. Sarah involves Dottie and Lynne in the class while Derek is counselled by Dr Chan in the car park. She lures him into the center where they watch the class from the back of the room. One of the improv senior’s grows agitated and heads for the exit, Derek using therapeutic fibbing to bring him back into the group.
Therapeutic Fibbing is technique often recommended by dementia experts. It is the practice of agreeing or saying things that are not true to avoid causing someone distress and to make them feel safe and comforted.
