Exhaustion is an unfortunate side effect of caregiving. Too often caregivers sacrifice their own needs for those of our loved ones. But rest and recovery is an essential element of caregiving. Respite provides a time to recharge, leaving caregivers with more energy to care for their loved ones. Respite is not selfish; it is an essential element of caregiving. Caregivers can find moments of reprieve within their routines, or seek help from family, friends, and care workers. Given time to recharge, we’ll discover that what’s best for us is best for everyone.
