Elders are respected individuals who play key roles in Indigenous communities. They are important knowledge holders, and they also help to ensure cultural continuity. As living connections to the past, Elders serve as teachers, healers, advisors and counselors. With the number of First Nations people in Canada aged 60 years and older expected to grow at a faster rate than non-First Nations populations, there is much the rest of the country can learn about how we can treat our elders who are still with us.
